This looks very interesting.. As you are using event machine, you might be interested in trying firering [1], a gem which uses eventmachine, em-http and yajl to interact with campfire.
firering is not really an alternative to firetower, rather you might be able to use firering to avoid having to code your own routines to interact with the campfire API.

Does it handle subscriptions to multiple rooms easily?
I believe so. Once you get a hold of the rooms of the campfire, you only need to call stream in any or each of the rooms to stream the messages.

Moreover, it also should be easy to track more than one session to campfire by instantiating one object of class Firering::Connection for each of the subdomains of campfirenow.com you need to track.
